Blacksod Lighthouse

The Blacksod Lighthouse opened last week for tours. This iconic lighthouse situated at the tip of the Mullet Peninsula has long connections with our family as many of our relations were light house keepers or married to keepers.

The tour tells the stories of some of those that manned the light houses around the coast in the past and it also tells the story of how the date of the D Day landing in 1944 was influenced by a weather forecast from Blacksod Lighthouse.

The tour is also very interesting in that you get to see the inside what is still a working light house.

Booking is required on https://www.visitblacksodlighthouse.ie/ and we recommend you take the opportunity to visit and see something that is a unique part of our heritage and current culture.
